Towards the end of January, Tesla issued a recall for 200,000 vehicles due to problems with their backup cameras. This came after a previous recall in December, where over 2 million vehicles were recalled for issues related to the Autopilot feature and door locks. Now, Tesla is facing its third significant recall within the past two months, as approximately 2.2 million vehicles are affected by problems with warning lights.
The vehicles that are impacted by this issue are the Cybertrucks from the model year 2024, Model 3 sedans from 2017 to 2023, Model S sedans from 2012 to 2023, Model X SUVs from 2016 to 2024, and Model Y SUVs from 2019 to 2024. The font sizes on the instrument panel are too small for the brake, Park, and antilock brake system warning lights. This can make it challenging to read important safety information, which in turn increases the risk of a potential accident.
In late January, Tesla provided a software update to certain vehicles at no cost to meet federal regulations regarding font sizes. The remaining vehicles will also receive this update in early February. Tesla will inform owners about this update on March 30, but in the meantime, owners can contact Tesla customer service at 877-798-3752 (Tesla’s recall number is SB-24-00-003), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit their website to check their vehicle identification number and obtain further information.
