In addition to updating the appearance and infotainment system of the 2025 Explorer, Ford also made changes to the pricing of the different models. The base price of the redesigned Explorer has increased by nearly $3000 compared to last year, while the high-performance ST model is now over $5000 more expensive.
However, the ST-Line and Platinum trims have become more affordable, with the ST-Line being approximately $2600 cheaper and the Platinum trim being around $4200 cheaper. Let’s delve into these changes further.
2025 Ford Explorer Pricing
The pricing for the 2025 Ford Explorer has been revised. In the past, there were eight different trims available for the Explorer, ranging from the Base to the Platinum. However, for the 2025 model year, the number of trims has been reduced to four. The new entry-level trim is called Active, and the other three trims are the ST-Line, Platinum, and ST, with the base price increasing in that order.
The Active Model
The Active model is replacing the Base and XLT models, which had a starting price of $38,455 last year. The 2025 Explorer Active starts at $41,220, which is a $2765 increase, but it also includes more appealing standard features. These features include a 12.3-inch fully digital gauge cluster, a 13.2-inch touchscreen with the new Ford Digital Experience infotainment system, a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seats, a power liftgate, and a trailer tow package. Additionally, the Active model has updated exterior and interior styling.
ST-Line Model
In 2025, the price of the ST-Line starts at $45,980, which is $2615 less compared to last year. The ST-Line not only benefits from the Explorer’s new appearance and upgraded technology, but it can now also be purchased with the new $3735 Street package. The Street package includes the Magnetite-painted 21-inch wheels that are found on the ST, as well as the improved brakes and red-painted calipers from the higher trim level.
For rear-drive models, the Street package also includes the Premium package ($2740 on its own), which adds ambient interior lighting, heated second-row seats, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and a power-folding third row. Opting for all-wheel drive costs an additional $2995, as it requires the ST-Line Street package without the Premium equipment.
Platinum
In the past, the Platinum trim level of the Explorer was the highest-end option and had a starting price of $57,310 in 2024. However, for the new model year, the base price has been reduced by $4190 to $53,120. This price decrease is due to the fact that the Platinum now comes with the 300-hp turbo 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine as standard, instead of the more powerful 400-hp twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6.
The V-6 engine is still available as an option, but it requires the Ultimate package ($4615), which also includes 21-inch wheels and quilted leather upholstery. Additionally, the upgraded interior with luxurious leather upholstery can be purchased separately as part of the standalone Lux Leather package, which costs $1695.
Explorer ST
The Explorer ST, which is designed for performance, now has a starting price of $56,800 for 2025, compared to $51,700 in the previous year. According to a Ford spokesperson, the $5100 increase in price is due to new standard features. These features include items that were previously only available in the optional ST High Package, Premium Technology package, and the ST Street package.
Similar to the ST-Line and Platinum versions, the 2025 Explorer ST can be upgraded with a black-painted roof for an additional cost of $4895. If you choose to switch from rear-wheel drive to all-wheel drive, it will cost an extra $2000, which is the same for the Explorer’s Active and Platinum trims.
